An absorbent article comprises a first liquid-permeable carrier layer, and at least a second carrier layer. A water sensitive attaching mechanism secures together the carrier layers to provide substantially attached zones and substantially unattached zones thereof. The substantially unattached zones provide a plurality of pocket regions and a high absorbency material is located within the packet regions to provide an absorbent laminate.

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 3, 1994 and granted September 9, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 3, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 3, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
