A device comprising a thin liquid crystal layer (10) between a planar counterelectrode and control electrodes each defining a capacitor and a picture element with the counterelectrode and being arranged such that each picture element corresponds to a row and a column. Each control electrode is connected to a control element such as a thin-film transistor which sets it at the potential of a conductor common to all the elements in the column to which it belongs or isolates it and allows its potential to float. The counterelectrode consists of two fractions (201 202) provided with devices for setting them at different potentials and reversed at each frame or multiple of the frame frequency. …

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 1, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 1, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 1, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
