Abstract From the Canadian patent

A mass spectrometry method in which a supplemental AC voltage signal having at least one high power frequency compo-, nent and at least one low power frequency component is applied to an ion , trap. Each high power component has an amplitude sufficiently large to eject one or more selected ions from the trap by , resonantly exciting the ions. Each low power component has an amplitude sufficient to induce dissociation (or reaction) of one or more selected ions, but insufficient to resonate the ions for detection. The frequency (or band of frequencies) of each high and low power frequency component is selected to match a resonance frequency of ions having a desired mass-to-charge ratio. …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 28, 1992 and granted July 2, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 28, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 28, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
