This invention describes a series of assays useful in evaluating the efficacy of agents which inhibit the neurotoxic effects of .beta.-amyloid peptide. These assays employ .beta.-amyloid peptide which is in a predominantly .beta.sheet conformation. This invention also encompasses antibodies having a specificity for .beta.-amyloid peptide which is predominantly in a .beta.-sheet conformation as well as pharmaceutic formulations containing these antibodies. These antibodies show poor reactivity with .beta.-amyloid peptide which has a great deal of random coil or .alpha.-helix secondary structure.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 17, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 17, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 17, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
