A system and method are provided for the non-thermal destruction of hazardous waste material using an electrodeless inductively coupled RF plasma torch (30). The waste material (26 32) is combined with a, controllable source of free electrons (34) and the RF plasma torch is, used to excite the free electrons raising their temperature to 3000 °C , or more. The electrons are maintained at this temperature for a sufficient time to enable the free electrons to dissociate the waste material as a result of collisions and ultraviolet radiation generated in situ (60) by electron-molecule collisions. The source of free electrons is preferably an inert gas such as argon, which may be used as both the …

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 14, 1992 and granted January 21, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 14, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 14, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
