A process for the production of tetrafluoroethanes which comprises contacting 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane with hydrogen fluoride over a fluorination catalyst/agent in the liquid phase or in the vapour phase at 200 ·C to 400 ·C. 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane produced by the process may be isomerised to 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane. The 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane may be co-fed with trichloroethylene to a vapour-phase process for producing 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane from trichloroethylene.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 8, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 8, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 8, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
