Abstract From the Canadian patent

On encoding with a smallest possible number of bits LPC parameters produced by an LPC analyzer (19) from at least one of subframe signals of each frame signal of an input speech signal, a divider (21) divides the LPC parameters into several parameter regions. Using vector code books (25(1m), 25(2m)) loaded for each parameter region with code vectors, a vector quantizer (23) quantizes the LPC parameters into, for use as quantized codes, indexes of selected vectors which are selected from the code vectors and of which a linear combination minimizes a quantization distortion.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 8, 1994 and granted April 28, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 8, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 8, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
