Abstract From the Canadian patent

An indicating element for an elevator includes a cover plate having an opening formed therein through which a lens extends. Positioned behind the lens is a light diffuser having an area formed in the shape of a symbol to be displayed. A plurality of light emitting diodes are mounted on a front surface of a printed circuit board and the diodes extend into the diffuser. The front surface of the printed circuit board as, well as the side walls of the diffuser are white to achieve a better light reflection. The lens, the diffuser and the printed circuit board are mounted on studs extending from a rear surface of the cover plate and are retained by nuts.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 26, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended January 26, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 26, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
