Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention provides novel chimeric tRNALYS-ribozyme molecules that compete effectively with tRNALYS for HIV-1 reverse transcriptase binding sites. The chimeric human tRNALYS-ribozymes inhibit reverse HIV transcription by delivering inhibitors such as ribozymes of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase directly to the virion particle and render it non-functional. The chimeric molecules of the invention thus serve as highly specific non-toxic therapeutic agents. These chimeric molecules also reveal a novel site, specific RNA cleaving activity of HIV-1.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 27, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 27, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 27, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
