Abstract From the Canadian patent

A multiple layer wraparound sleeve (21) having a heat shrinkable backing layer (22) and at least one functional layer in the form of a discrete sheet (23) which is connected to one end of the backing layer (22) and is of, at least sufficient length that when the sleeve (21) is, wrapped around the pipe (17) or other substrate at least twice, the functional layer sheet (23) wraps around the substrate (17) first with its ends overlapping and the backing layer (22) wraps around the functional layer sheet (23) with its ends overlapping. This allows wrappings of reduced thickness to be employed without problems of voids occurring between the functional layer and the substrate.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 26, 1994 and granted July 22, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 26, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 26, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
