The device comprises a tubular guard (14) which surrounds the needle (6) and has a conical connection surface which in protective position, fits against a conical connection surface of the end piece (15) holding the needle (6). By pushing on the cap (16) covering the needle (6) it is possible to attach the end piece (15) and associated guard (14) onto the handpiece (1). A push then applied to the collar (17) of the guard (14) releases it from the end cap (15). The guard (14) becomes fitted into the handpiece (1) releasing the tip of the needle (6).

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 25, 1994 and granted November 3, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 25, 2014.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 25, 2016.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
