Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention is a heated wiper blade comprising an elongated blade and a heating element connected to the electrical system of a vehicle. The heating element utilises a material with a positive temperature coefficient of resistance placed between a pair of conductive members. The conductive members span the length of the heating element to provide a uniform distribution of heat through the length of the blade. Electrical connections to the heating element are preferably located at one end of the blade. The heating element can be located inside the blade or between a semi-rigid attachment member and an upper surface of the blade.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 24, 1994 and granted October 19, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 24, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 24, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
