Abstract From the Canadian patent

CODON OPTIMIZED DNA SEQUENCE, FOR INSECT TOXIN AaIT Abstract of the Disclosure, This invention provides for the construction of a codon optimized DNA sequence encoding the insect-specific toxin Androctonus australis insect toxin (AaIT). The codon optimized sequence is then inserted into an insect virus. A susceptible insect which ingests such a modified insect virus will cease feeding on plants due to a toxin-induced paralysis at an earlier time than an insect which ingests a wild-type insect virus lacking an AaIT gene.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 21, 1994. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended January 21, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 21, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
