The low peel strengths of diffusion bonded joints in aluminium alloy structures has been a bar to their use in superplastic forming. The invention overcomes this disadvantage by creating a workpiece intended for subsequent superplastic forming by diffusion bonding an assembly of alloy sheets (30-32) in bonding zones according to a predetermined pattern and providing reinforcing material (33) in the workpiece in the region of the diffusion bonded zones. The reinforcing material serves to prevent the tensile stresses exerted during subsequent superplastic forming from initiating peel fracture of the diffusion bonds. Instead the, tensile stresses act so as to bring about superplastic …

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 2, 1992 and granted February 19, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 2, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 2, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
