An implantable infusion reservoir (1) having a resilient foam member (14) in a rigid housing (10) to urge fluid (53) to an implantation site. The foam member compresses upon charging and then expands to maintain a predetermined pressure characteristic within the fluid. The foam replaces the previously used two-phase propellent and eliminates the need for a hermetic metal bellows. The foam may be either closed celled or open celled with or without a barrier skin (16). The device can be conformal to any desired shape and employ various metering techniques (30 32, 40) to deliver accurate quantities of fluid.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 19, 1992 and granted December 30, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 19, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 19, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
