Power dissipation of a CMOS circuit such as a microprocessor is reduced by dynamically slowing down the microprocessor clock (CLKOUT) during selected system operations such as hold wait or, ATperipheral bus access cycles. The microprocessor clock (CLKOUT) is slowed to its minimum allowable frequency with precise synchronous control to maintain the accuracy of high frequency clock edges and to prevent glitches or substandard pulse widths.

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 25, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended March 25, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 25, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
