Abstract From the Canadian patent

An ac electric drive system includes a bidirectional power semiconductor interface between a battery or an auxiliary energy storage device, and a power inverter for boosting an input do voltage and for decoupling the dc link voltage from the input dc voltage such that the dc link voltage is substantially independent of the input dc voltage and the parameters of the battery or energy storage device. The input dc voltage is controlled to maximize efficiency along predetermined torque envelopes.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 25, 1993 and granted August 27, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 25, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 25, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
