Abstract From the Canadian patent

Vehicle engine torque, acceleration, deceleration and brake treadle pressure are determined (30, 32, 38). Vehicle load is calculated (34) from the engine torque and acceleration; and braking system effectiveness is calculated (42) by comparing the determined deceleration with a deceleration predicted for the calculated vehicle load and the determined brake treadle pressure. Values representative of braking system effectiveness are accumulated and evaluated to more accurately determine when braking system service is required than is possible by merely scheduling service according to the amount of elapsed time or the number of miles driven since prior service was performed.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 24, 1993 and granted January 11, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 24, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 24, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
