Abstract From the Canadian patent

A security bag includes an electronic memory device (11) which may be read remotely using non-visual means. A method of processing such a bag comprises the steps of encoding information onto the tag in non-visible form, retaining the device on or in the bag, and subsequently retrieving the information. A variant provides the memory means of the electronic tag and the reading means being separately located and connected across the seal means of the bag by a conductor (11c) designed to break upon attempted opening of the bag.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 31, 1993 and granted November 21, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 31, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 31, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
