Abstract From the Canadian patent

A control system for dual oven resistance heaters (BAKE BROIL) has, opposite sides of each heater connected to a common side of one of a pair of SPDT switching relays such that no current flows to the heaters when both relays are in a common state of energization/de-energization. A microcomputer receives a signal from the oven temperature sensing and signals separate switching devices to selectively energize/de-energize one of the relays to switch on the desired heater. Separate comparators also receive the temperature sensor signal; and, in the event of failure of the microcomputer or switching devices with a heater "ON", the comparator is operative to bring the relays to acommon state …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 21, 1993 and granted June 15, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 21, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 21, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
