An achromatic fiber optic coupler of the type wherein three single-mode optical fibers are fused together along a portion of the lengths thereof to form a coupling region. Each fiber includes a core and a cladding the lowest, refractive index of the fiber claddings being n2. The fibers are disposed in a triangular array in the coupling region. A matrix glass body of refractive index n3 surrounds the coupling region, n3 being lower than n2 by such an amount that the value of .DELTA.z-3 is less than 0.125% wherein .DELTA.2-3 equals (n22-n32)/2n22.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 18, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 18, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 18, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
