Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a braking and auxiliary driving means for an internal combustion engine in a vehicle which produces braking and auxiliary motive power by converting electrical energy in both directions between the polyphase AC circuit of a squirrel-cage polyphase induction machine linked to the rotary shaft of the internal combustion engine and the DC circuit of an electricity storage means, the electricity storage means comprises an electrostatic capacitive circuit. A low-voltage storage battery is provided in addition to this electrostatic capacitive circuit, and this can be coupled to the electrostatic capacitive circuit by a bidirectional DC-to-DC converter.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 5, 1993 and granted June 15, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 5, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 5, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
