An electronic controller (7) receives a signal from a moisture sensor (6) which indicates the amount of moisture that has accumulated on the windscreen (1) since the last wiping action of the blade (2). The controller (7) receives or retains information which indicates the rate or delay of wiping action as is currently set. The motor controller (4) is then signalled so as to retain the current wiping rate, or alternatively determine as a future, wiping rate for the next wiping action. The future wiping rate is determined on the basis of the signal from the sensor (6) the, current wiping rate and programmed criteria.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 9, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 9, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 9, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
