Storage-stable injectable mesna solutions with a pH value higher than 7.5 are described together with a method of manufacture. At this pH, mesna (HS-CH2-C2-SO3Na) is stable and is thus more readily useable for example in protecting the urinary organs in the treatment of tumour diseases with ifosfamide.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 7, 1993 and granted March 25, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 7, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 7, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
