Abstract From the Canadian patent

A microburst precursor detector utilizes a multiplicity of radar beams (1-4) and samples radar returns, in each beam from, meteorological radar signal reflectors and processes (16) the signal returns in a statistical manner to determine average radar reflectivity and to extract doppler signal parameters. These parameters are utilized to determine a second set of parameters; average doppler frequency within each radar beam doppler spectral spread within each , radar beam and the skewness of the doppler, spectrum in each beam. The second set of parameters is processed (18-20) to establish the existence of a microburst predicted, surface impact, time to impact wind shear surface location …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 6, 1992 and granted March 14, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 6, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 6, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
