A method is provided for making an electrical cable in which a core is enclosed in a corrugated metallic tape over which a coating of polymeric material is extruded at high temperature and under vacuum. In order to prevent penetration of water between the corrugated tape and the cable core, when after extrusion of the plastic coating it is cooled in a water trough, a strip of silicone is placed in at least one and preferably several corrugations across the width of the tape at the front end thereof just prior, to it being wrapped about the cable core.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 27, 1993 and granted June 30, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 27, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 27, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
