Abstract From the Canadian patent

Heat-shrinkable cap comprising a heat-shrinkable tube sealed at one end by heat recovering said end of tube over a dimensionally stable, solid plug. The tube and plug are mutually weldable under heat, or are bonded together thereby providing an air and water-tight seal at the sealed end. The open end of the cap may be internally coated with adhesive to provide an air and water-tight seal over an object such as a cable-end when the cap is heat recovered over said object.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 19, 1993 and granted February 23, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 19, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 19, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
