Leukemias characterized by the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome and the expression of the hybrid bcr-abl gene are treated with antisense oligonucleotides complementary to a target sequence of the bcr-abl mRNA transcript including the breakpoint junction. Individual chronic myelogoneous leukemia patients or Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphocytic leukemia patients are treated by first sequencing the individual's bcr-abl breakpoint junction, and then administering antisense oligonucleotides complementary thereto. The oligonucleotides are designed to hybridize specifically to the bcr-abl breakpoint junction without substantial cross hybridization to untranslocated c-abl …

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 15, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 15, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 15, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
