This interactive diagnostic system provides the automotive service professional with all the tools necessary to provide precision diagnostic testing on today's computercontrolled cars. This is accomplished by providing the system with means including an external computer for controlling operation of one or more specific actuators independent of the onboard computer and for simulating the operation of these latter sensors. At the same time the, electronic data entering and exiting the onboard computer including the actual data associated with the network of sensors and actuators can be continuously monitored and analyzed by the external computer.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 29, 1992 and granted June 18, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 29, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 29, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
