There is provided a method of detecting minute foreign matter in the entire mass of fluid. Part of the passage for fluid is constructed of a transparent member. Light is emitted in a direction substantially parallel with the axis of the fluid passage so as to surround the passage. Light scattered by foreign matter in the fluid is observed from a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of the passage to detect any minute foreign matter in the fluid.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 23, 1993 and granted May 19, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 23, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 23, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
