Abstract From the Canadian patent

A disposable diaper having a stretchable sheet laid on a basic diaper structure and this sheet is provided at locations corresponding to urinary organs and anus with openings, respectively, which are independent from each other so as to prevent excrement from spreading over the crotch zone of wearer and particularly to prevent excrement from clinging to urinary and genital organs.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 23, 1993 and granted November 18, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 23, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 23, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
