A fiber optic connector (10) has a low cost ferrule assembly (34,32) that protectively supports positions, and aligns an optical fiber. The ferrule (20) has an outer ferrule body (34) terminating in an alignment passage (34b) and which seats an inner support member (32) within which the fiber extends. This ferrule (20) is particularly advantageous for use with unbuffered optical fibers and adhesiveless connectors.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 11, 1993 and granted October 14, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 11, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 11, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
