An energy dissipation resistor for dissipating electrical energy stored in implantable defibrillation capacitor(s). The resistor comprises a layer of resistive foil sandwiched between two layers of electrically insulative material so as to define a circuitous resistive path. At least two electrically conductive contacts are disposed through one of the insulative layers such that each of the contacts provides an electrically conductive path from the exterior of the energy dissipation resistor to the resistive foil layer enclosed therein. Conductive leads are electrically connected to the conductive contacts and provide a means by which the energy dissipation resistor can be connected to …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 5, 1993 and granted March 25, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 5, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 5, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
