Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention relates to an optical fiber amplifier including an amplification optical fiber doped with an active material for the optical amplification for amplifying signal light by applying the signal light and pumping light to the amplification optical fiber to amplify the signal light. The optical fiber amplifier comprises optical coupling/dividing means for coupling pumping light emitted from a plurality of light sources for optical pumping, and branching the coupled light into output forward pumping light and backward pumping light a first, optical coupler for coupling the forward pumping light with signal light to apply the coupled light to the input terminal of the amplification …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 23, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 23, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 23, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
