Abstract From the Canadian patent

Disclosed is a transformed yeast cell, containing a first:,heterologous DNA sequence which codes for a mammalian G protein coupled receptor and a second heterologous DNA sequence which codes for a mammalian G protein a subunit (mammalian G.alpha.). The first and second heterologous DNA sequences are capable of expression in the cell, but the cell is incapable of expressing an endogenous G protein .alpha.-subunit (yeast G.alpha.). The cells are useful for screening compounds which affect the rate of dissociation of G.alpha. from G.beta..gamma. in a cell. Also disclosed is a novel DNA expression vector useful for making cells as described above. The vector contains a first segment comprising …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 12, 1991 and granted June 12, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 12, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 12, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
