Abstract From the Canadian patent

An improved refrigerant recovery unit is provided for evacuating and storing refrigerant from a mechanical refrigeration system. The recovery unit includes a portable refrigerator circuit charged with a refrigerant having a lower saturation temperature than the target refrigerant to be recovered. The recovery unit refrigerant is passed through an evaporator coil used to chill a recovery tank adapted for flow connection with the refrigeration system to be evacuated, thereby creating a pressure differential which causes the target refrigerant to flow into the recovery tank.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 17, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended March 17, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 17, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
