Abstract From the Canadian patent

A packet communications system utilizes a route determining mechanism by identifying principal paths between the source and the destination in the system. Principal paths are minimum hop count paths with a transmission delay less than a specified threshold. Principal path links are accepted as legs of the optimum path, if feasible, i.e. if the resulting load on the link is less than a specified principal threshold. Secondary links are accepted only if the resulting load on the link is less than a specified secondary threshold where the secondary, threshold is less than the principal threshold. All paths must also have a transmission delay less than a specified threshold. Each request for a …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 18, 1993 and granted January 21, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 18, 2013.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 18, 2015.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
