Abstract From the Canadian patent

A technique for generating "optimal" radio frequency pulses for use in creating SPAMM imaging stripes and for quantitatively determining the displacements of the imaging stripes during a pre-imaging interval. The imaging operator selects the desired stripe parameters (304) so that the resulting SPAMM imaging stripe will have the desired narrowness, sharpness, flatness and the like. These parameters are then used by an optimal pulse generating system (212) to generate the input radio frequency pulse sequence which will produce the desired stripes. Tagging of the heart wall or some other soft tissue structure with a grid of planes of altered magnetization is then used to provide finite …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 19, 1991 and granted November 20, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 19, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 19, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
