A lift chair for raising an occupant from a seated position towards a standing position includes a frame and a fixed geometry seating assembly that is pivotally mounted on the frame at the front edge of the seat. An actuator pivots the seat between the lift position with the seat sloping upwardly to the rear and a reclining position with the seat sloping downwardly to the rear. Seating is made of high density foam and with surface sculpting to provide postural support specifically for seniors. Complex and expensive linkages are eliminated.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 8, 1993. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 8, 2013.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 8, 2015.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
