A method for electrochemical machining a workpiece (10) utilizing an electrolyte that is passivating to the workpiece (10) wherein the conductive tool (20) is provided with a non-conductive abrasive surface (24), and said tool (20) and workpiece (10) are brought together with a contacting relative motion so that said abrasive surface (24) will selectively abrade the workpiece (10) to remove any passivation layer therefrom in those areas to be machined and such that the unabraded surface areas will retain the passivation layer to prevent or retard electrochemical machining. A reciprocal component of the relative motion between the tool (20) and workpiece (10) pumps the electrolyte …

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 9, 1991 and granted October 31, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 9, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 9, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
