This invention provides a novel process of producing magnetically responsive polymer particles comprising polymeric core particles coated evenly with a layer of polymer containing magnetically responsive metal oxide. A wide variety of polymeric particles with sizes ranging from 1 to 100 microns can be used as core particles and transformed into magnetically responsive polymer particles. The surface of these magnetically responsive polymer particles can be coated further with another layer of functionalized polymer. These magnetically responsive polymer particles can be used for passive or covalent coupling of biological material such as antigens, antibodies, enzymes or DNA/RNA …

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 15, 1992 and granted November 9, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 15, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 15, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
