This invention relates to fire-retardant polymer compositions and preferably, but not exclusively, to fire-retardant polyamide compositions. It has now been found that the combination of a zinc borate and a divalent metal stannate, particularly zinc stannate, in halogen-containing polymeric compositions provides an increased fire-retardant effect, which is greater than that expected from the use of either zinc borate or the stannate alone. The combination also suppresses smoke production. Preferably the stannate is zinc stannate.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 29, 1991 and granted February 12, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 29, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 29, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
