A motor (104) in Fig. 5 (110) in Fig. 6, (160) in Fig. 7 and, (208) in Fig. 9 which may be either linear (Figs. 5 6) or rotary, (Figs. 7, 8) has two arrays of pentagonally-shaped permanent magnets, (10) and (80) in Fig. 5, (114-134) and (138-156) in Fig. 6 (166-184) and (186-202) in Fig. 7, (210) and (240) in Fig. 8. Each magnet in each of the two arrays terminates in a point (22) or (90) in Fig. 5, (14A-134A) or (138A-156A) in Fig. 6 (166A-184A) or, (186A-202A) in Fig. 7, (222) or (252) in Fig. 8 which is disposed so as to face the other array.
