A specimen package for a medical specimen slide comprises a sheet of packaging material with panels adapted to be folded to enclose a slide. Two U-shaped cuts are provided in the sheet of material with the end portions of one of the U-shaped cuts being oriented away from the end portions of the other of the U-shaped cuts to form a retaining band extending between the cuts and under which the slide is inserted and retained.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 30, 1992 and granted March 23, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 30, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 30, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
