A combustible effluent is burned in surplus air in a first area (2) of a thermal reaction stage (1) a first acidic gas flow is injected (13 43) into the combustion fumes in said area (2) a second acidic gas flow is partially burned (9) in a second area (3) of the thermal stage which receives gases from said first zone (2) and with a controlled amount of air (11 12) so as to achieve an H2S:SO2 molar ratio of 2:1 in the output gases from a Claus catalytic stage (19) which processes the gas flow from the thermal stage (1) and the acidic gas flow rates between the two areas (2 3) are adjusted to obtain a flame temperature of over 850 °C in said second area (3).

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 24, 1992 and granted October 3, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 24, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 24, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
