Abstract of the Disclosure An organic electroluminescent device is disclosed comprised of, in sequence, an anode an, organic electroluminescent medium, and a cathode. The organic electroluminescent medium is formed by an organic host material capable of sustaining both hole and electron injection in contact with both the anode and the cathode and a fluorescent dye capable of emitting light in response to hole-electron recombination located in the host material and spaced from the cathode. The dye has a bandgap no greater than that of the host material and a reduction potential at least 0.4 volt less negative than that of the host material.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 15, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 15, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 15, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
