The manufacturing process of the capacitor with a polypropylene dielectric film consists in introducing pre-cross-linking elements of the polypropylene at the time of manufacturing. When the capacitor is used, the electrical field and/or temperature generated trigger the cross-linking process of the polypropylene, delaying and slowing down the ageing phenomena i.e. the decrease of the dielectric strength. The pre-cross-linking agent is a polyfunctional monomer to which an activation accelerator and/or a stabilizing agent can be added.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 10, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 10, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 10, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
