Abstract From the Canadian patent

A combination of a first element rotationally coupled to a second element, with a damper or snubber for slowing the rotational movement, which has a core with a tapered surface, the core being affixed to the first element. A housing having a tapered surface is affixed to the second element. Axial alignment is maintained between the core and the housing and a selected friction force is developed between the tapered surfaces of the core and the housing so that movement of the joint is dampened.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 10, 1992 and granted January 5, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 10, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 10, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
