In order in the case of a device for displaying luminous images to be able on the one hand to increase contrast and on the other achieve good reliability, a display module is proposed, which has two series-connected light-, controlling elements, e.g. liquid crystal elements (11 12). Upstream of, between and downstream of the liquid crystal elements are preferably provided polarizers (25, 26, 32, 36) in such a way that they significantly increase the light blocking action as nested pairs "inner" and "outer" pairs.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 1, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 1, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 1, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
