The present invention provides a novel submersible photocell for detecting ultraviolet light in disinfection apparatus. The photocell includes a quartz jacket capable of transmitting ultraviolet light and a fluorescent material sensitive to ultraviolet light at a wavelength of about 253.7nm and which produces an infrared secondary emission having a wavelength of about 730-735nm upon absorption of ultraviolet light. The photocell also includes a photoconductor sensitive to the secondary emission light, is located adjacent the fluorescent material and is capable of varying conductance of electricity upon absorbing light having a wavelength of about 730-735nm from the infrared secondary …

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 26, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 26, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 26, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
